Habber Tec has developed a solution based on the IBM Business Automation Workflow platform, which implements a management system with the aim of automating the business processes of utilities companies with integration in the cloud, which allows to sustain accelerated growth.
ODF Energia is a Spanish company that has experienced vertiginous growth – two figures a year – since it obtained its license as an electricity and gas trader, when the energy market in Spain was deregulated, back in 2011. Its objective has always been to help consumers and other companies to reduce their energy costs, using innovation, transparency and honesty with their customers as key levers.
Because the deregulated energy market in Spain is recent, it is subject to numerous rules: from the government, from energy providers, from industry organizations. To stay competitive, the company needed to respond to these changes quickly.
At that time, ODF was using a disparate set of applications / software to run business activities and people were building business processes with different tools. As the business grew more and more people were needed, just to support the software, which was unsustainable.
ODF executives realized that cloud-based applications would provide the flexibility and scalability they needed to keep up with constant change and growth. Using the IBM Business Automation Workflow platform, in the cloud, Habber Tec, I designed for ODF Energía a solution that involves an integration layer in the cloud to consolidate and automate all your business processes.
From the beginning, ODF used to use a whole set of applications / software that they had been developing to carry out commercial and operational activities, which prevented them from growing without heavy investments in people, which also required learning times that did not suit their strategy.
In addition, there were consequences such as delay in the registration of the new client, delay in sending the supply to the new client, loss of competitiveness and difficulty in adapting systemically to the constant regulatory changes in the energy system.
There are many business opportunities offered by this solution. In the case of ODF, it allowed it to present itself in the market, dominated by a few large competitors, with differential value to its customers, such as the ability to adapt quickly to changes.
The other great business opportunity offered by this solution and experienced by ODF was explosive growth. The experience that this energy company had with cloud-based business process management (BAW) software has been so positive that it led managers to decide to move their entire IT environment to the cloud. In the words of the CEO, Sergio Palmero, “we decided to move our entire infrastructure to the cloud due to our explosive growth, increasing from USD 4 million to USD 14 million to USD 24 million in recent years,” he says. “And we expect USD 54 million this year and $ 90 million next year.”
The solution is structured in 7 stages:
This solution allows any utility company to have a return on investment in:
Save personnel costs. What several people did before, now it’s done by a machine.
Increase in turnover.
Increase in business volume.
Grow in a scalable way without the need for infrastructure.
This solution is reusable for any company in the private security sector that offers surveillance services and wants to improve its processes to reduce costs and optimize the quality of their service.
In the following video, Sergio Palmero, CEO of ODF Energia, explains how the Switching & Billing Automation on Cloud solution developed by Habber Tec and based on IBM BAW (Business Automation Workflow) on Cloud technology was adapted to the needs of the energy company to automate business processes and move your IT operations to the cloud at a time of accelerated volume growth.
